Describing the vertical root distribution of alpine plants with simple climate, soil, and plant attributes

چکیده

The vertical root distribution (VRD) in the soil remains unknown for most plant species, as studying systems different pedo-climatic settings is time-consuming and methodologically challenging. Yet, information on VRD of vegetation types essential to understand better biogeochemical processes occurring at soil–plant-atmosphere continuum. aim this study was describe three dominant alpine, herbaceous plants (i.e. Euphrasia minima Jacq., Leucanthemopsis alpina L., Poa L.) basis simple easy-to-measure climate, soil, attributes order test validity existing descriptive protocols parametric ecohydrological models. results showed that decreased with depth it can be effectively described a negative exponential equation. Key parameters, such mean rooting depth, cross-sectional area collar, biomass, were both site species-specific but they chiefly influenced by regulating soil’s water mass balance. models not able portray successfully studied alpine we found strong correlation between empirical establish clear direction future research. Future work should address influence snowpack characteristics length snow-free frozen ground periods ecohydrology ecosystems.

the evaluation of language related engagment and task related engagment with the purpose of investigating the effect of metatalk and task typology

abstract while task-based instruction is considered as the most effective way to learn a language in the related literature, it is oversimplified on various grounds. different variables may affect how students are engaged with not only the language but also with the task itself. the present study was conducted to investigate language and task related engagement on the basis of the task typolog...

Facilitative plant interactions and climate simultaneously drive alpine plant diversity.

Interactions among species determine local-scale diversity, but local interactions are thought to have minor effects at larger scales. However, quantitative comparisons of the importance of biotic interactions relative to other drivers are rarely made at larger scales. Using a data set spanning 78 sites and five continents, we assessed the relative importance of biotic interactions and climate ...

The Pattern of Root Distribution and Water Absorption in Layered Soil

The pattern of root distribution in layered soils is one of the significant issues in the calculations of soil water and irrigation management and planning. The objective of this study was to determine the pattern of root distribution of soybean in layered soils and its effect on water uptake. The research was conducted in a completely randomized design with 15 treatments consisting of three di...

Climate and soil attributes determine plant species turnover in global drylands.

AIM Geographic, climatic, and soil factors are major drivers of plant beta diversity, but their importance for dryland plant communities is poorly known. This study aims to: i) characterize patterns of beta diversity in global drylands, ii) detect common environmental drivers of beta diversity, and iii) test for thresholds in environmental conditions driving potential shifts in plant species co...

Predicting Plant Species Distribution Across an Alpine

5 Predictive models constitute an important tool in ecology. Using presence/absence data of 6 15 plant species of an alpine rangeland in northern Spain, and a set of 14 topographical and 7 geomorphological descriptors of relatively easy acquisition, we examined and compared the 8 performance of five state-of-the-art methods used in ecological modeling: Multiple Logistic 9 Regression (MLR), Arti...
